The Girl in a White Dress who came in a Black Cab

Summer rain traces poems on the

Dusty road

Dawn is cold but my lover is asleep

Like a silent goddess in the moon

Cracking the ice surface of her dreams

I’d dive in, if I could

Where the gallows master smokes at the forest edge

Checking the timber for his scaffold,

He also thinks of you

Because you hypnotise us all

Even the market traders

So they sell their wares exclusively to you

Hanging their cares off coffee shop tables

Unable to move on from the Delphian slab

And the girl in a white dress

Who came in a black cab

Will you give me a throw of your dice?

And if I land three sixes in a row

Would you give me your hand to hold?

Though it fits into mine like a conker

Carried in the palm of a kid

Across the frost embalmed field

Where the only thing real is your kiss

Your parted lips and their primordial. inevitability

Your white dress

And the black cab that brought you to me.
