Walking along forest lane

We came upon a stag.

He was standing in the shadows of an Aspen tree, staring at us. Unafraid.

Fresh from lying together

Under the inquisitive branches of a Hawthorn,

Sapped dry from sex,

Silent, as the monolith pines along the river,
